Enthusiastic Approval by Keene Planning Board

On Monday, July 25, the Keene Planning Board unanimously approved MoCo’s proposal to transform the former YMCA property on Roxbury Street into the new home of MoCo Arts. And then every single member of the board made a personal statement on the record extolling the virtues of this addition to the vitality of the community! Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and sent in letters of support. We are buoyed by the enthusiasm for this project.

“I think the design is fantastic. I think architecturally this will be a huge enhancement for the downtown,” says Planning Board Chairman Gary Spykeman. “I’m so happy this happening in the heart of the city.”

“It’s a really positive way to bring vitality and life to strengthen that portion of the city,” said Mayor Kendall W. Lane. “I think as a result of this project, we’ll see a significant spillover effect both to properties on Roxbury Street and the east side of downtown.”

“The plan to replace the dilapidated hulk of the former YMCA with a thriving downtown educational and performing arts center provides great benefits for the community, as well as enabling MoCo to better – and more safely – perform its mission.” said Campaign Co-Chair John Hoffman, during the public comments portion of the meeting.
