DEMOLITION & NEW BUILDING APPROVED BY HDC

Keene’s Historic District Commission has approved the schematic design for the new home of MoCo Arts!

On a vote of 4-0 the Historic District Commission moved to approve the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new 17,000 square foot building by MoCo Arts at 38 Roxbury Street.

The design of the new building gracefully acknowledges Keene’s historic architecture while proudly reflecting the trends and materials of the 21st century. Above the lobby entrance is a 17′-6″ translucent insulated wall, which has a grid pattern intended to break down its scale in a manner that respects the surrounding architectural scale and fabric of building materials. The translucent wall, known as Kalwall, is a lightweight, low maintenance, durable, highly insulating, and daylighting system which appears to glow.

Thank you to Katie Cassidy Sutherland, Architect of Record, and Dave Bergeron, of Brickstone Land Use Consultants, for delivering a compelling presentation, and bringing MoCo one step closer to a new home.

Thank you to H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture for the careful design work. We look forward to seeing these schematic drawings come to life.

Thank you to everyone who attended, spoke during the public comment section and/or wrote letters of support to the HDC meeting on 5/18. The enthusiastic support for MoCo was very evident in the room. We are very, very grateful.
